According to Gigaom, Netflix is considering adding 2-5 minute bite-sized content to their existing movies and shows in order to increase Netflix’s mobile usage.
According to design manager Dantley Davis, people don’t spend 90 minutes watching movies on their phones – in fact – most people don’t even watch 25 minute TV show episodes on their phones. A majority of mobile sessions last under 10 minutes.
This means most of Netflix content is watched off laptops, smart TVs, or tablets. The addition of short clips will give Netflix the push it needs in the mobile sphere. The short clips would likely feature comedy bits, memorable scenes from TV shows, and short snippets of movies.
This new content would also come in perfect timing with the newest feature being released by Netflix (allowing users to privately recommend videos to their friends).
